Famous Irish scientists
Ireland has produced many famous scientists and engineers over the centuries.
They have discovered pulsars and split the atom, and revolutionised inventions such as the submarine, the tractor and photography.
Many give their names to key scientific concepts, such as George Boole (whose “Boolean logic” is at the heart of every digital computer), Robert Boyle (“Boyle’s Law” in physics) and Francis Beaufort (the “Beaufort Scale”).
